A trove of dictation exercises for generations of schoolchildren and record-setting audience numbers each televised broadcast, the cinematographic and literary work of Marcel Pagnol belongs to France’s cultural heritage. And yet, he has not been the subject of a single major documentary…

With the help of never-before-seen archives provided by his grandson Nicolas Pagnol, as well as excerpts from films, novels, plays, interviews, and letters, this film aims to fill this gap. It pays tribute to this great popular author who made his life into a work of art, and his work into a lifelong project.
