Over the course of Picasso’s extraordinary career, the Blue and Rose periods rarely receive the attention they deserve. Condensed to the years 1901-1907 and relegated to the shadow of his cubist paintings, they are frequently brushed aside, oversimplified, and rarely studied for themselves. Upon closer inspection, however, they bear the seeds of all the work that was to come.
